The lobby is being renovated in our building so there literally isn't even dry wall yet. But, more surprising than that was the concierge woman who was...well, interesting. Let's just say that I can think of members of the Addams family who she too closely resembled...and they also had more warmth to them!
Katelyn (my roommate) is awesome and we sorted out our large amount of clothes and shoes and got things figured out. I finally got to Skype with Maria in Spain (yay wifi) and then Omar came up to visit before dinner. The whole group met up (about 25 in total) and we walked to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner. Then we took the metro to view the monuments at night- WOW! That was a really cool experience- I definitely liked the WWII Memorial the best, but it's impossible to remember the grandeur and awe of the monuments until you return to them. Seeing them at night was a great perspective. We passed GWU on our way back and it was really nice to see their campus- nothing like Vandy! Very urban...I really liked their greek houses though. Then we rode the subway home as a collectively exhausted, hot, and sweaty group. Only a few minor mishaps with the subway so far but unfortunately my internship is one of the further ones from our suites- meaning early mornings for me!
Tomorrow we're going to have a practice run to our internships to figure out the best route, then meet back and go to a Nationals game where we will sit with our mentors and meet with alums. After we'll probably hit up the grocery for basic supplies. I'm in awe that I'm here and am so excited to get started with work and figuring out everything about this amazing city!
sounds like a blast! i hope you keep this well-updated even if you're a busy intern. sorry about the inconveniences at your place, but at least you have wifi, a pool, and a new workout center!
